HP ML Series Server - Unknown Devices

While installing a new server here, I came upon one of the more annoying problems in installs, missing drivers.  This is a brand new HP ML150 with Windows 2003 Standard x32, I installed all the drivers that came on the support CD, and did all my windows updates.

Still, the problem remained of two unknown devices with ID ACPI\HPI0002\0 and ACPI\IPI0001\0

After much looking around, I ended up tracking the two items down - they are not located on the CDs, and one of them is not even available for download without calling HP!  The files are now located here -> http://www.block.net.au/help/files/HPDrivers.zip

That zip file contains the drivers necessary for most HP Servers with this problem, including the ML150 and ML110 - the readme.txt file is effectively just the instructions of which is which.

One driver has an executable that will install it for you, the other must be done the old fashioned way.

Good luck!

Kieran

Does this work for other servers like the DL380 G5?

# July 30, 2008 12:57 PM

Kieran.Block said:

It should work on all HP servers that are referencing the IDs specified at the top.  The DL380 is almost a rack mount ML350, so I would be surprised if these drivers didn't work.

Huey, you wouldn't need to run cp008632 unless you are installing it on an x64 server - and if you were, then you wouldn't need to install the x32 version as well.

Hello

I did like everyone else, I installed everything from the server cd, found the two items to still be a problem, and then started my google search.  Found lots of info, but your site not only had the solution, but also the drivers.

Thank you so much.

Thanks so much, Kieran,

I was struggling with that unknown device since a couple of hours ago, and now I've solved the problem.

No trace of the driver on the HP web site, as far as I know (I've tried all the available drivers, but I managed to solve only the HPI0002 problem and not the IPI0001 one...)

Thank you very much again,

Luca

Outstanding!! Be warned however... do not try to install Server 2008x64 or SBS2008 on an ML150. It is currently unsupported. HP have issued an advisory notice and are currently looking to resolve the issue.

The issue is the server locks up during heavy disk usage - formatting for instance.

Changing the default controller for an E200 does not cure the issue either... as it has the cache module it just hides it for a while until you perform a really heavy transfer... then the cache fills up and then it crashes.

Also tip... i know they're cheap but avoid SATA drives in favour of SAS drives.
