&lt;p&gt;If more people would highlight this problem, it would make email life a lot more bearable.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;My own fake &amp;#39;honeypot&amp;#39; was to create a phony email address of &amp;quot;stuff@xyz.com&amp;quot;, which is what I use when websites force me register an email address.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I then created an In-Box rule to auto-delete anything to that address. An amazing quantity of just plain junk flashes through my In-Box (on the way to the Deleted Folder.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I made a cool program back in the day called Mirror Mirror (imagine a cool graphic with the second half of that printed backwards) that would send back spam a hundredfold or a thousandfold, v.2 even had DNS lookup and domain ownership tracking to make sure it went to the right person. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;There was an issue of clogging up the internets tubes and some legalality crap, so it didn&amp;#39;t make it past being sent to a few friends, none of whom are lawyers. &lt;/p&gt;
