Bring your own Network Administrator!
It is not an uncommon occurrence that a company will want to groom one of it's employees into the Network Administrator. Courses and books are fine, but will not help with the day to day running of the network in the near future, and are no match for practical experience.
Block Networks offer practical training to junior administrators that will give them the skills to deal with around 80% of user problems on their own. Our support systems for the administrator mean they will be able to call a senior technician for the other 20% of the time, building on the strong foundation that your network should be self sufficient, requiring external assistance only in emergencies or when IT staff have time off.
There are only three things that you need to start this training; the first, and by far the most important, is the willingness to learn; eagerness and excitement for technology will make the whole process faster and more successful. The second thing you need is a good level of computer skill, you should know your way around windows and be able to perform basic tasks. The third and final thing you need is your own network, ideally you will already be providing a basic level of support to your users.
The training begins with an onsite meeting and network audit, from where a proper assessment of the administrators level of knowledge and network situation can be gathered. With this information, a schedule of three to six months (depending on the previous assessment and requirements of the company) will be drawn up which covers two of the primary areas in the course; stabilisation of the existing network with the instructor leading the administrator, and ongoing maintenance with the instructor supporting the administrator.
From here, you will be able to manage your network in the future; handling all or most of the daily network issues, this will serve as a continuation of your training, enabling you in the future to either expand with the company, or branch out from it and enter the IT industry separately.
